Research title: The role of picophytoplankton in biogeochemical processes and mixotrophy in southern Benguela food webs

Research outline: The study involves about 80% of intensive field and lab work, investigating in depth the microbial communities off of the southern Benguela and the role they play in selected biogeochemical processes and mixotrophy in an anchor station off Elands Bay. About 20% of the research will be consolidating the findings from the empirical research in an ecosystem model.
